Machado Mineiro SHP (Small Hydroelectric Plant) started its operation in 1992, on Pardo River, between the municipalities of Ninheira and Águas Vermelhas, Minas Gerais. With 2 generating units, the plant delivers 1.72 MW of installed power.
Composed by earth dams, rockfill with clay core and concrete, Machado Mineiro SHP dam has about 360 m of crest length and 42 m of maximum height. Its reservoir is run-of-river type, with about 21.35 km² of flooded area and maximum storage capacity of 205.97 hm³.
Machado Mineiro SHP’s overflow system is composed by a Controlled Sill Spillway, provided with 3 (three) segment gates of 10.50 m high and 8 m wide, totaling a maximum discharge capacity of 2029 m³/s.
Built in concrete, the Water Intake of Machado Mineiro SHP has 3 (three) spans, totaling 44.70 m of crest length. Its conception was made with the purpose of attending the perennial systems (3.78 m³/s), irrigation (4.60 m³/s) and power generation (maximum flow of 12 m³/s). The adduced water is conducted by 2 (two) forced conduit, located inside the adduction gallery, which will feed 2 (two) generating units located in the Power House of Machado Mineiro SHP.
Of the sheltered type building, the Power House of Machado Mineiro SHP has 2 (two) Francis type turbines of horizontal axis. The return of the turbine flow occurs by an escape channel, in the bed of Pardo River.
