Some accidents can be avoided if we take certain precautions in our daily lives, especially when approaching power plants. Do not swim near the dams or approach areas considered to be at risk, they are just some prevention and tips for a safer day-to-day. Below, we separate some more important aspects, which are worth the alert.

Power Plants

Do not swim near the dams. In hydroelectric power plants, the dammed water flows by gravity through ducts to the turbines that move the axles of the generators. These produce the electrical energy in three-phase alternating current, in low or medium voltage. Then, the energy is elevated and conducted to the transmission lines. So, if you get too close to a dam, you can be sucked in by the force of the water.

Substation and Transmission Tower

The substation is a place where there is a concentration of energy to be distributed in cities. Therefore, it is a dangerous place. Only Cemig staff can enter, as they have the necessary safety equipment to ensure protection and prevent any accidents. Never enter substations or climb poles and transmission towers. Respect the hazard notices, they protect and seek to offer safety.

Transmission Lines

Nas linhas de transmissão, a energia é transportada em alta tensão até os centros

In transmission lines, energy is transported in high voltage to consumer centres, such as cities. The conductors of these lines are installed at a distance from each other, according to the voltage level. Therefore, never climb up the transmission towers. You may fall or suffer fatal electric shock. Only authorized and trained staff may stay close to these areas. Also, never go near electrical conductors as they can cause shocks that can also be fatal.

Transformers

In transformers the power is lowered to low voltage. In it is the fuse switch that serves to protect the circuit against faults. Never try to reconnect the fuse switch, always contact Cemig to solve the problem.

Measurement

The energy used by consumers is registered in the meters. Only Cemig technicians can access these meters which are housed in sealed boxes at the entrances to the homes. Do not try to open the boxes of the meters, there are risks of electric shocks. In case of malfunction, please call Cemig.
